Attorney-at-Law Merit Lind (Cambridge University, L.L.M) deals with regulations, financing, commercial and business law issues, advising clients in regulated industries as well as information technology sectors. She consults crowdfunding platforms, alternative payment solution providers, fintechs, etc. Merit advises and represents start-ups, mature companies and public authorities in transaction structuring and negotiations, intellectual property and IT law issues and regulatory matters, including with questions concerning data protection, artificial intelligence and block-chain, as well as with KYC and AML rules and compliance, operating and activity licences, etc. Until July 2018, Merit was the Head of Law Firm Deloitte Legal in Estonia, establishing its practice on the market. She has been at the forefront of supporting fintech sector developments, including the head of the FinanceEstonia crowdfunding expert group creating the best practice for the industry.
Further, Merit has gained wide experience in public law matters, especially public procurements and public and private sector collaboration projects. Over the years she has led the e-Residency international tax environment product development project, she has successfully advised and represented the Estonian authorities throughout the process of concluding the 40 million EUR transaction for the manufacturing of new era ID cards with IDEMIA as well as in related disputes. She has also advised the Estonian Government in concluding the contract for the new era travel documents. Merit advised the Estonian authorities throughout the breakout of the Estonian ID card crisis in 2017 (ROCA vulnerability) and is representing the Estonian Government in its legal disputes with one of the world’s largest security solutions providers.
Merit Lind has also advised and represented clients on several occasions in disputes over the legality of the use of EU funds in the aviation, utilities, construction and IT sectors. She has advised and represented clients in a myriad of public and private law disputes.
