Courts have traditionally been the venue of last resort for legal and not so legal disputes. However, courts are ill suited for efficiency in resolving commercial disputes. In Estonia, there is still much mistrust in alternative methods of dispute resolution, even or actually especially within the legal profession.

We warmly welcome Ilona Nurmela, a commercial mediator with a PhD from the University of Cambridge, to our fantastic team. As a member of the Estonian Bar Association since 1998 and a former General Counsel and Management Board member of a NASDAQ OMX listed company, Ilona has 12 years of experience in dispute resolution and prevention. Trained by CEDR on the rigorous and internationally recognised Mediation Skills Training Course and with a background in utilities, regulatory, contract management and IT, Ilona helps businesses and their legal advisors to conduct classical (non-legal) and adjudicative mediations of international as well as local disputes in Estonian, Russian and English.
